Vanities can be designed in various ways, and the level of sophistication, as well as the expenditure on the countertop and cabinet, is closely tied to the mirror installed over that vanity. In this particular project, situated in the city of Newport Beach, CA, we installed custom cabinets and 4"x10" marble subway tiles on all the walls. The finishing touch needed was the mirror.

We crafted floor-to-ceiling mirrors for this project. Although they appear to extend behind the cabinets, they strategically cease where the cabinet begins and resume where it ends.

It is crucial to communicate your preference for a lighted LED mirror to your contractor, as the wiring must be completed before the installation of stone or tile on the walls. If done after the finishes are in place, as is the case with this project, wiring becomes considerably more expensive.

Since all the mirrors in this installation should illuminate simultaneously, customers can utilize the lighted mirror as an accent light when the bath is not in use. The LED lights employed are of high grade, boasting a 24V 3000k color temperature. It is advisable to select your desired color before ordering, as multi-color LEDs are discouraged due to their shorter lifespan and the increased number of LEDs, resulting in gaps between them.

The installation process involved pre-wiring and locating wire logs as close as possible to the required locations. After quartz installation, a 3/4" thick by 2" wide MDF was affixed with concrete anchors to the lumber behind the stone. LED lights, equipped with their peel-and-stick material, were then installed. Thoroughly cleaning the surface before installation is imperative, as neglecting this step may cause the LED strip to come undone in some areas, resulting in a woven light effect that is challenging to repair.

To create the desired washed-off light effect at the sides, we ordered glass pieces 2" wider than each side of the 3/4" x 2" MDF. Two pieces were ordered, one for the top and one for the bottom. It's important to note that the mirrors do not extend behind the vanity; although they appear lit, they do not.

The mirrors were installed with mirror glue, applied directly over the MDF material, and securely pressed into the glued location. Centering was ensured during installation. After allowing the mirror glue to set for one day, we removed the temporary tape attached to the wall, verifying the secure attachment of the mirror. This step is an extra precaution, as mirror glue is known to hold strongly from the moment the mirror is pressed into it.
